Men’s Rugby Head Coach Earns Competitive Coach of the Year

Jason Fox was given the award by USA Rugby

BALTIMORE, Md. – Notre Dame College Men's Rugby Head Coach, Jason Fox, was selected by USA Rugby as the 2016 Competitive Coach of the Year at the USA Rugby National Development Summit Awards Dinner on Jan. 14. (Official Release)

Fox, who became head coach at Notre Dame College in 2015, was able to lead the Falcons to a 39-17 victory in the 2016 Division 1-AA National Championship game, over Bowling Green State University, on Dec. 4. The championship came after going 11-0 during the season, including an impressive 31-30 victory over Indiana University on Oct. 22.

As it is stated on USARugby.org, Fox was "recognized for his ability to raise the level of development and refinement of the players under his tutelage."

The Notre Dame Head Coach, who started as an assistant coach and head 7s coach in 2012, has done an impressive job evolving the team into what is today, as the Falcons are perennial title contenders in D1AA. This all comes after he started the Rugby program at St. Edward High School in 1999 along with All-Star teams and several youth programs.

Fox, a Firefighter of 27 years, stated in his acceptance speech, "my Firefighting schedule has allowed me to give back a lot of time to coaching." This has helped him keep a close eye on the NDC Rugby team and mold it into a powerhouse.

Fox also gave his own history of wearing the symbol of USA Rugby. He stated, "The symbol represents nearly 35 years of playing, coaching, administrating, refereeing."
