SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame College women's soccer team cruised to a 2-0 road win over the host Shepherd Rams on Tuesday afternoon, earning its first Mountain East Conference win of the season.
The Falcons (2-0, 1-0 MEC) dominated the game from start to finish, outshooting the Rams by a margin of 18-5. NDC also attempted nine corner kicks, compared to just one for Shepherd, proving the Falcons were aggressive on the offensive attack.
After
Maranda Melton and
Alexis Manoa peppered the Rams goalkeeper with five shots combined in the early minutes of the match, it was
Noelle Jester who broke through for the first goal of the game. Jester scored her first collegiate goal in the 17th minute, assisted by
Jessica Sobotka, to give the Falcons the early 1-0 lead over Shepherd.
Less than two minutes later, the Falcons added yet another goal.
Riley Doyle scored her first goal of the season at the 18:31 mark of the first half, extending the Falcons lead to 2-0 less than 20 minutes into the game.
From there, the Falcons relied on a stout defensive front to thwart the Rams offensive attack.
Meanwhile, NDC continued its aggressive offensive play. While the Falcons didn't add another goal, they didn't need to as a strong defensive second half led to a 2-0 road win for NDC.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 2-0 on the season, including a 1-0 mark in MEC play.
The Falcons will return to action on Friday, Sept. 9 on the road against MEC rival West Virginia Wesleyan. Game time is scheduled for 4 pm.
