Women's soccer stays unbeaten with 2-1 win over Wheeling Jesuit

WHEELING, W.Va. -- Alexis Manoa scored a 64th minute go-ahead goal to help lead the Notre Dame College women's soccer team to a 2-1 road win over the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals on Thursday evening at Bishop Schmitt Stadium. The Falcons (4-0-2 overall, 3-0-2 Mountain East) stayed unbeated on the season with the 2-1 victory over the conference-rival Cardinals.

NDC's defense controlled the game throughout, holding the Cardinals to just five shot attempts in the game.

Behind a strong defense, the Falcons scored midway through the first half in the 22nd minute scored a header goal via corner kick from Manoa, giving the Falcons the early 1-0 lead. NDC maintained its 1-0 lead going into halftime, outshooting WJU by a 6-3 margin in the first 45 minutes of action.

Following a throw-in from the left side, the host Cardinals responded with a goal of their own in the 60th minute, tying the score at 1-1.

The Falcons didn't wait long to respond.

After dishing the assist on NDC's first goal of the game, Manoa scored the second goal of the game for the Falcons. In the 64th minute, Manoa beat a WJU defender up the middle, scoring an unassisted go-ahead goal to give NDC a 2-1 lead.

From there, the Falcons limited offensive chances for the Cardinals behind a stout defensive front, leading to a 2-1 road victory.

With the win, NDC improves to 4-0-2 overall, including a 3-0-2 mark in MEC play.

The Falcons return to action on Sunday, Sept. 25 at home against Charleston in another battle of MEC opponents. Game time is scheduled for 1 pm.
