SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons fell twice at home on Friday in a pair of games at the NDC/Ursuline tournament. 

The Falcons (5-6) began the day with a loss to Davis and Elkins, before dropping their final contest of the day to Ohio Valley. Notre Dame has now lost three straight following their five match winning streak. 

Notre Dame opened the tournament with a morning contest against Davis and Elkins, and fell in three sets to the Senators. The Senators took the opening set, 25-18, before a decisive 25-14 win in the second set, and they closed out the victory with a 25-17 win in the final set. 

Mary Kate McHugh led the way for Notre Dame with 12 kills in the contest to go along with eight digs. Tawny Flareau had 13 assists and four digs, while Paige Staudacher added eight assists, Natalie Spadaro had six kills and four blocks and Ali Kaeberlein led NDC with nine digs. 

The nightcap featured a five set match, and a back-and-forth battle between the Falcons and Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley. It began well, as Notre Dame took the opening set, 25-13. Ohio Valley responded by winning the next two sets, 26-24, and 25-20. Notre Dame won the fourth set, 25-18 to force a final set, where the Fighting Scots outlasted NDC, 17-15. 

Melissa Maczuzak paced NDC with 21 kills and added 11 digs. McHugh added 11 kills and 13 digs, while Flareau had 16 assists and led NDC with 21 digs. Staudacer led NDC with 19 assists in the contest, while Morgan Toman had seven service aces, and Kaeberlein had 16 digs. 

The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17, for the final day of play at the NDC/Ursuline tournament at Murphy Gymnasium. They'll begin with a 10 a.m. match against Alderson Broaddus, and finish with a 7 p.m. match against Ursuline.
