OBERLIN, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons kept their winning streak alive on Saturday afternoon, as they won a pair of matches in Oberlin, defeating both Oberlin and LaRoche.
The Falcons (5-3) have now won five matches in a row, and have now eclipsed last year's win total of four, just eight games into the season.
Notre Dame opened the day with a 3-1 victory of the hosts of the tri-match, Oberlin, before closing out the day with a three set victory over LaRoche College.
The Falcons started the day with a close, 25-22 victory over Oberlin, and took a 2-0 lead after taking the second set, 25-15. Oberlin was able to extend the match with a 25-20 victory in the third set, before Notre Dame closed it out with a 25-19 win in the final set.
Melissa Maczuzak led the Falcons with 18 kills in the contest to go along with a trio of service aces and 10 digs.
Mary Kate McHugh contributed 10 kills, and had a team high, 14 kills.
Ali Kaeberlein added 10 kills, while
Tawny Flareau had 24 assists and
Paige Staudacher added 11.
Notre Dame was tested early on in the second match of the day, as they held off LaRoche in the opening set for a 25-21 victory. NDC pulled away in the second set with a 25-19 win, and they closed out the successful Saturday with a 25-14 victory in the final set. In addition, they had eight service aces in the contest.
Maczuzak again led the charge with 18 kills and added eight digs, and
Natalie Spadaro ended the match with 10 kills. Flareau had 17 assists, a team best, 15 digs and added three service aces. Staudacher added 15 assists and three service aces.
The Falcons return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 13, when they hit the road for a non-conference tilt against Edinboro. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
