BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Notre Dame Falcons saw their 2016 season come to an end on Saturday afternoon, as they were eliminated from the Mountain East Conference tournament after a 6-1 loss to West Liberty. 

For the Falcons (28-25) the loss was their second in a row, and takes them out of the running for the Mountain East Championship, while the win for the Hilltoppers (30-24) gives them a chance to take on West Virginia State in an elimination game later on Saturday. 

Notre Dame snagged an early lead in the top of the second inning. Julio Rosales started the inning with a base hit, and made his way to second on an errant throw by the third baseman. A wild pitch put Rosales on third base, and Hank Beasore then reached on an error by the first baseman which allowed Rosales to score. 

West Liberty tied the game in the bottom of the third when DJ Busby scored on a RBI double from Michael Adams, and they took the lead in the bottom of the third, on a two-run triple from Ethan Estes. 

The game was well within reach for the Falcons, as they trailed by just a pair of runs, until the Hilltoppers pulled away with a trio of runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 6-1 lead. 

Notre Dame was held to just a run on four hits in the loss, and left nine runners on base. Rosales, Beasore, TJ Lett and Travis Smetana all recorded hits in the loss. 

Cam Fuller (4-2) took the loss, after allowing four runs on 10 hits while fanning five batters over 6.1 innings of action. 

The loss brought an end to the 2016 season for the Falcons, with a 28-25 record. They made it to the MEC tournament for a third consecutive season, finished over .500, with 25 wins or more for the third straight season as well.
