Falcons take two from Glenville State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AVON, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons scored a big double header sweep at All Pro Freight Stadium on Sunday afternoon, taking a pair of games from the Glenville State Pioneers, 9-8 and 3-2.

The Falcons (14-14, 8-4 MEC) have now won three out of their last four games, while the Pioneers (8-19, 7-5 MEC) have now lost three out of their last four.

Game One
Notre Dame scored a pair of runs in the first inning to take an early lead that they would never surrender. Danny Beaver had a huge game for the Falcons, going 4-for-4, and his first hit of the day was a single to start the first inning. Beaver came around to score the game's first run on a passed ball, and Travis Smetana scored the second run on a wild pitch.

Glenville State was able to dive into the deficit with a single run in the top of the second, before the Falcons put the game away with an incredible seven-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning, getting five of those runs with two outs.

Keifer Quick drove in the first two runs of the big frame, on a towering two-run homer that cleared the wall in left, his third bomb of the season. Beaver's final hit of the game was a two-run triple to the gap in right-center field to score Jake Kirsh and Austin Barnhart. Julio Rosales drove in the next run on a RBI single through the left side of the infield, and Ross Barker found the gap in right-center, as he tripled in the final two runs of the inning to cap the big frame.

The Pioneers were able to make things interesting in the top of the seventh inning, where they scored five times on four hits to come within three, but Matt Seekins (2) was able to come in and hammer down the final out, with the potential game tying run on third.

Seekins snagged the save, while Josh Armbruster (4-2) scored the victory, after allowing seven runs, six earned on six hits while fanning two along the way.

Beaver led the way for the NDC offense going 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, while Ely and Barnhart both hit safely twice as well. Barker and Quick both had two RBIs.

Game Two
The second game of the day was a bit of a challenge for both teams defensively, as they combined to commit eight errors throughout the contest.

The Pioneers scratched a run across in the top of the second, and added another in the top of the third to take an early 2-0 advantage.

Notre Dame was able to tie it up, plating a pair of runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. TJ Lett started the inning with a base hit, and came around to score on a wild pitch, before Travis Smetana reached on a two out error, which allowed Troy Findlay to score, tying the game at 2-2.

In the 10th inning, Troy Findlay reached on a throwing error, and Tanner Dovsek moved him over to second on a sacrifice bunt. Dominic Lombardo pinch ran for Findlay, and eventually scored the game winning run on Beaver's sacrifice fly to left.

Seekins (2-1) earned the win for the Falcons, tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief without allowing a hit and struck out two along the way. Hank Beasore struck out five over 3.1 innings of scoreless relief as well.

Lett led NDC offensively with two hits in the contest.

The Falcons are back in action on Wednesday, April 6, when they hit the road for a non-conference tilt against Findlay. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
