Box Score WINTERHAVEN, Fla. – The Notre Dame Falcons scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning of Tuesday afternoon's contest against Tiffin to pull away late at Chain of Lakes Stadium for a 3-1 victory over the Dragons.
The Falcons (4-3) snapped a brief, two-game slide with the victory, which was their second of their Spring Trip, while the Dragons (3-7) have lost their last two overall.
The two teams combined for 14 hits in the low scoring affair, while the NDC trio of
Cam Fuller,
Matt Seekins (1-1) and
Hank Beasore (1) limited the Dragons to just a run on six hits throughout the contest. Fuller went five innings and allowed just a run on four hits while striking out seven, but did not factor into the decision. Seekins picked up the win after tossing three scoreless innings of two-hit relief, and Beasore worked a perfect ninth for the save.
Notre Dame took an early lead, scoring in the bottom of the first inning.
TJ Lett reached an error to start the game, and eventually came around to score the game's first run on
Ross Barker's sacrifice fly to give NDC a 1-0 advantage.
Tiffin responded quickly, scoring on a two-out RBI single in the top of the second to tie the game at 1-1, and it stayed that way until the Falcons scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The eighth inning began with Lett's double to left field.
Danny Beaver followed with a single to center, putting runners at the corners with nobody out, and
Keifer Quick brought in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to plate Lett. Later in the inning,
Julio Rosales stroked a run scoring triple to bring Barker home, providing a huge insurance run, and sealed the deal.
The first eight batters in the NDC lineup hit safely once. Lett, Beaver, Quick, Barker, Rosales, Beasore,
Nick Ely and
Austin Barnhart all came away with hits. Lett scored two of NDC's three runs, while Quick, Barker and Rosales all drove in runs.
The Falcons are off on Wednesday, but will return to action on Thursday, March 3, when they square off against No. 9 Florida Southern at Henley Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
