Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Friday afternoon marked Opening Day for the Notre Dame College baseball team, who took to the road to take on the No. 24-ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds in a non-conference matchup. The Falcons fell short in a high-scoring affair, 20-11.
Keifer Quick went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI and two runs scored while
Ross Barker went 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored to help the Falcons' cause.
The Falcons (0-1 overall) started the game with momentum on their side as
Danny Beaver smacked the first pitch of the 2016 season up the middle for a base-hit. After a double-play cleared the bases,
Julio Rosales walked and advanced all the way to third base following a pair of wild pitches.
Keifer Quick ripped a hit through the left side of the infield, scoring Rosales and giving the Falcons the early 1-0 lead.
TJ Lett then singled to right field to advance Quick to third, putting runners on the corners for NDC.
Ross Barker then collected an RBI hit, scoring Quick and keeping the two-out rally alive for the Falcons. A single from
Hank Beasore allowed two runs to score (one RBI, one unearned) as the Falcons took a 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning.
However, the Greyhounds responded with offense of their own in the bottom of the second, taking a 6-4 lead over NDC. From there, the Greyhounds scored in five consecutive innings to open a lead over the Falcons that they would never surrender.
After nine innings, the Falcons fell short by a final score of 20-11.
NDC will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 20 for game two of the three-game set against Indianapolis. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for Noon.
