WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Notre Dame Falcons returned to the road on Friday night for the first time in 13 days, and lost a three set match to West Liberty.
For the Falcons (15-14, 7-6 MEC) the loss was their third straight on the road, while the win for the Hilltoppers (20-12, 8-5 MEC) was their sixth straight in conference play.
In the opening set, Notre Dame erased an early 4-1 deficit, and rallied back to take a 7-4 lead. However, NDC was down, 14-13, when West Liberty went on a 5-1 run to take a 19-14 lead, en route to a 25-21 win. West Liberty scored eight of the first nine points in the second set, and went on to win it, 25-16, before taking the final set, 25-22.
Melissa Maczuzak had 14 kills to lead the Falcons, and added 13 digs.
Mary Kate McHugh had seven kills, while
Natalie Spadaro added six to go along with a pair of blocks.
Tawny Flareau paced NDC with 20 assists and
Paige Staudacher contributed with 12.
Ali Kaeberlein led NDC with 18 digs, and
Riley Riehl added 10.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Nov. 5, when they play a pair of matches in Wheeling, W.Va. They'll take on Wheeling Jesuit at 1 p.m., before squaring off against Malone at 3 p.m.
