WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- The Notre Dame College women's soccer team saw its impressive 2016 season come to an end on Friday afternoon as the Falcons fell to the East Stroudsburg Warriors in the NCAA Tournament First Round, 2-0.
The fourth-seeded Falcons (14-2-4 overall, 13-1-2 Mountain East) battled for the entire duration of the match, but the fifth-seeded Warriors scored two late goals in the 74th and 76th minutes to advance to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

Samantha Shoemaker, a 2nd Team All-Mountain East honoree, made eight saves in net for the Falcons.
Both sides were tied at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of action, with ESU outshooting NDC by a 5-2 margin. However, the Falcons offense only attempted two shots in the second half as well, totaling four for the game, as the Warriors' defensive front proved stout.
As the second half began to wind down, both teams still found themselves deadlocked at 0-0 before the Warriors scored two goals within three minutes, winning by a final score of 2-0.
With the loss, the Falcons finish the 2016 season with an overall record of 14-2-4 overall, including a 13-1-2 record against MEC opponents.
With their second Mountain East Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in three years, the Falcons will return in 2017 with proven success and momentum on their side.
