SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons scored a big home victory on Friday night, defeating the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets in four sets at Murphy Gymnasium.
The Falcons (9-9, 3-3 MEC) was their second in a row, and their fourth in their last five at home, while the loss for the Yellow Jackets (3-13, 1-4 MEC) was their fourth in five games on the road.
The Yellow Jackets opened the evening with a 25-17 victory. Notre Dame rallied from an early deficit in the second set to come away with a 25-21 victory. In the third set, the Falcons stormed out a 6-1 lead, and won the set, 25-17.
The final set was a thriller, especially in the final moments as Notre Dame pulled away with a 29-27 victory.
Melissa Maczuzak led the way for NDC with 20 kills, and added a trio of service aces.
Mary Kate McHugh added 14 kills and led the Falcons with eight digs.
Paige Staudacher had 36 assists on the night, and added five digs.
Erin Daugherty led NDC with six blocks, while
Morgan Toman added four blocks and three service aces.
Notre Dame will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 11, when they square off against Lake Erie College at 7 p.m. in Painesville, Ohio.
