SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Saturday afternoon at Mueller Field marked Senior Day for the Notre Dame College women's soccer team as the Falcons hosted the visiting Fairmont State Fighting Falcons in each team's final game of the 2016 regular season. The host Falcons dominated the visiting Fighting Falcons from start to finish, winning by a final score of 7-0.
The Falcons (14-1-2 overall, 13-1-2 Mountain East) clinched the Mountain East Conference regular season Championship with the win over Fairmont State, the program's third regular season MEC Championship in four years of MEC play.
NDC was led by an array of goals from five different Falcons;
Katarina Doncevic recorded a hat trick with three goals while
Alexis Manoa,
Jackie Corrigan,
Natalie Ockunzzi and
Chloe Heaps each added one goal a piece. Doncevic also added two assists, racking up five points in the contest.
At halftime of the game, the Falcons took time to honor their seven seniors:
Samantha Shoemaker,
Natalie Ockunzzi,
Jessica Sobotka,
Abby Defilippo,
Karla DiJohn,
Megan O'Connor and student manager
Julia Cristino. Each senior was escorted his their parents as the Falcons took time to honor the efforts and accomplishments of each individual.
With the win, the Falcons concluded the regular season with an overall record of 14-1-2, including a 13-1-2 mark against MEC competition. The Falcons officially clinched the top seed in the upcoming Mountain East Conference Tournament, and will host the fourth-seeded West Liberty Hilltoppers in the MEC Semifinals at 3 pm at Mueller Field.
