SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Wednesday afternoon at Mueller Field marked a Mountain East Conference showdown between the visiting Shepherd Rams and the Notre Dame Falcons. The host Falcons used a first half goal from
Katarina Doncevic and relied on steady defense throughout to defeat the Rams, 1-0.
The Falcons (9-1-2 overall, 8-1-2 Mountain East) dominated the match from start to finish, outshooting the Rams by a margin of 14-6.
With NDC controlling possession, the Falcons' offensive attack broke through with a 27th minute goal from
Katarina Doncevic, who scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season. The goal from Doncevic was assisted by
Norah Barnes, her fourth of the season, as the Falcons took a 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 going into the halftime intermission, and the Falcons came out in the second half continuing the same theme of ball possession from the first half.
The Falcons also relied on stout defense throughout the second half, stifling the Shepherd offensive attack. The NDC defense repeatedly denied passing lanes for the Rams, keeping possession on the Shepherd half of the field for nearly the entire game.
Behind a strong defensive front and a first-half goal from Doncevic, the Falcons came away with a 1-0 win over the visiting Rams.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 9-1-2 overall, including an 8-1-2 mark against MEC competition.
The Falcons return to action on Sunday, Oct. 16 at home against West Virginia Wesleyan. Game time is scheduled for 1 pm at Mueller Field.
