Falcons drop road contest at Edinboro, 3-1

Box Score
EDINBORO, Pa. -- The Notre Dame College women's soccer team traveled to Edinboro to take on the host Fighting Scots on a hot Saturday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium. The Falcons persevered but ultimately fell short in the non-conference matchup, losing 3-1 to the Fighting Scots.

Edinboro took the early lead over NDC with a goal from Ashley Mutkus exactly eight minutes into the game, taking a 1-0 lead over the Falcons.

The Falcons tried to create offensive chances but the Fighting Scots continued to pepper shots at NDC's Louisa Rygh in goal. However, Rygh stool stall, making four saves in the first half to reject scoring chances for Edinboro.

Behind strong play from Rygh in the first half, NDC went into the halftime intermission trailing by just one goal, 1-0.

In the second half, the Falcons again attempted to create offensive opportunities, but struggled to do so as the Fighting Scots' defense limited shot attempts. NDC's defense also stepped up early on the in second half, limiting chances for Edinboro to keep the Falcons within one.

Midway through the second half, the Falcons' offense began to click as Natalie Ockunzzi dished a pass to Jillian Doss, who sniped an upper corner goal from 25 yards out, tying the score at 1-1 at the 68:27 mark.

After fighting back to tie the game at one, NDC then turned their sights to taking the lead. However, the Fighting Scots' Ashley Mutkus scored just minutes later at the 75:26 mark - her second goal of the game - to give Edinboro the 2-1 lead.

Five minutes later, Edinboro scored again to take a 3-1 lead over the Falcons with less than 10 minutes to go.

NDC attempted to mount a comeback, but it was too little, too late as the Falcons fell by a final score of 3-1.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 1-1 on the season. NDC will next be in action on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at home against the Shepherd Rams in their first Mountain East Conference contest of the season. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
