Box Score URBANA, Ohio -- Playing their second road game of the week, the Notre Dame College women's soccer team squared off against the host Urbana Blue Knights on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons used an early goal from
Jillian Doss to pull ahead early, holding on throughout and going on to win by a final score of 1-0 over Mountain East Conference rival Urbana.
After scoring a third-minute goal against West Liberty on Thursday, Doss again put the Falcons ahead early on Sunday in Urbana. The sophomore midfielder scored in the ninth minute, finding a gap in the Blue Knights' defense and using a pass from
Lytia Hart to put the Falcons ahead early, 1-0.
From there, the both sides played an even first half, with the Blue Knights narrowly outshooting the Falcons, 7-5. However, strong play in net from
Louisa Rygh (3 saves) kept the Falcons in front at halftime, 1-0.
In the second half, the shot advantage continued to stay balanced from both sides, with Urbana taking six shots to NDC's five. However, the NDC defense continued to stand tall, as did Rygh, keeping the Falcons with the lead.
With the narrow 1-0 lead, the Falcons maintained their poise throughout the remainder of the second half, holding on to beat the Blue Knights to earn the 1-0 road victory.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 3-2-1 on the season, including a 2-1-1 mark in MEC play. Furthermore, NDC is now 5-0 all-time against the Blue Knights since Mountain East Conference play began in the 2013 season.
The Falcons will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 24 at home against the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
