Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons won for the first time this season on Wednesday evening at Murphy Gymnasium, in a four set victory over Alderson Broaddus in their 2015 home opener.
For the Falcons (1-4) the win was their first of the year, and their third straight win in a home opener, while for the Battlers (4-7) the loss was their third in a row.
It was quite a back and forth battle throughout the evening, and it ended with both sides battling to an extended finish in the fourth set, with the Falcons outlasting the Battlers, in a 35-33 victory to close out their first win of the year.
Notre Dame took the first two sets of the evening, before the Battlers took a back and forth battle in the third set to extend the match. The Falcons were then able to hold off the Battlers in the aforementioned, extended fourth set to win.
A trio of Falcons turned in double digit kills on the night.
Lindsay Shirilla and
Melissa Maczuzak led the way with a dozen kills each, while
Angela Bush finished the night with 10. Maczuzak also finished the game with a trio of service aces, and 23 digs.
Bush had an incredible night at the net for the Falcons, tallying 10 total blocks.
Tawnia Almaraz played a big role in NDC's incredible defensive effort, leading the way with 27 digs on the night.
Tawny Flareau produced 26 assists, and she added 24 digs.
The Falcons are in action again on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they hit the road for the PSAC/MEC Crossover, with a pair of matches in Erie, Pa. They'll take on Indiana-Pa. at Noon, and they'll take on Mercyhurst at 4 p.m.
