Women's soccer falls to Charleston 1-0 in MEC Semifinals

Box Score
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame College women's soccer team dropped a narrow 1-0 contest to the visiting Charleston Golden Eagles on Thursday afternoon in the Mountain East Conference Semifinals.

The Falcons and Golden Eagles fought to a struggle in the first half as neither side was able to establish control of the game early. NDC and Charleston each split ball possession in the first half with neither side able to create offense early.

NDC outshot Charleston by a 6-3 margin in the first half, but was unable to capitalize on offense, leaving the game at a scoreless tie at half.

Both teams came out in the second half looking to establish tempo over the other, but it was the Golden Eagles who struck first.

In the 53rd minute, UC's Isabella Jaffin scored with an assist from Hannah Myers, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead early in the second half. The goal from Jaffin was the only shot attempt of the half for Charleston, but proved to be a crucial goal.

The Falcons pushed on offense to tie the game, but to no avail early in the half.

NDC dominated the shot attempt totals in the second half, outshooting UC by a 10-1 margin. However, the Falcons were unable to convert any of those 10 shot attempts into goals despite coming close on numerous occasions.

In the final minutes of regulation, the offense made one last push on offense, but it was too-little, too-late for the Falcons. Charleston's goalkeeper stood tall in the second half, keeping NDC off the scoreboard as the Falcons fell by a final score of 1-0 in the MEC Semifinals.

With the loss, the Falcons drop to 13-5-1 on the season. Having been eliminated from the MEC Tournament, NDC will now wait to see if they will earn an at-large berth to the NCAA National Tournament.
