Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons fell to West Liberty in three sets at Murphy Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
The loss for the Falcons (2-22, 1-12 MEC) was their seventh in eight games at home this season, while the victory for West Liberty (14-15, 7-6 MEC) was their second in a row, and their third in their last four games on the road.
West Liberty opened the match with a 25-20 victory over the Falcons. Notre Dame had a 14-12 lead over the Hilltoppers, before they went on a 6-0 run to take an 18-14 advantage and never looked back.
The second set saw the Falcons take an early, 7-4 advantage before the Hilltoppers called for a timeout. Coming out of that break, West Liberty scored five straight points to take a 9-7 lead. Notre Dame stayed well within striking distance, and they trailed just one (23-22) before the Hilltoppers scored the final two points of the set to take a 25-22 victory.
The final set of the night was dominated by the Hilltoppers. It started with West Liberty scoring 10 of the first 14 points, and it was never in question, as they closed out with a 25-10 victory.
Lindsay Shirilla led the way for the Falcons with eight kills on the night, while
Tawnia Almaraz was NDC's leader in digs with 18.
Samantha Placko and
Angela Bush both had three blocks, while
Tawny Flareau led Notre Dame with 15 assists.
The Falcons are in action again on Friday, Nov. 6, when they play host to Ursuline at Murphy Gymnasium, in a non-conference matchup. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start.
