Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons fell in three sets to the Urbana Blue Knights on Tuesday evening at Murphy Gymnasium.
The Falcons (1-14, 0-5 MEC) have now lost four in a row at home, while the victory for the Blue Knights (7-10, 1-5 MEC) snapped a four match losing streak.
In the opening set, both sides exchanged modest runs, and the set remained very close, until Urbana snapped a 16-16 tie by scoring five straight points, and took the opening set, 25-20.
More of the same occurred in the second set, as neither side was able to take a lead of more than two, until Urbana once again used a large run to pull away. The set was tied at 12-12, when the Blue Knights went on a 7-0 run to take a 19-12 lead, and eventually won the set, 25-19.
Urbana scored the first three points of the third set, and Notre Dame answered with four in a row. The Falcons and Blue Knights went toe-to-toe in a tightly contested battle, and Urbana held a slight, 18-17 lead, when they scored four in a row, and won the set, 25-19.
Lindsay Shirilla paced the Falcons with 14 kills on the night, and added five digs.
Tawny Flareau had 21 assists, and led Notre Dame with 13 digs.
Angela Bush had three blocks on the night, and
Kristen Hill added seven kills.
The Falcons are in action again on Friday, Oct. 9, when they hit the road for another Mountain East Conference tilt in Institute, W.Va., against West Virginia State. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
