The first half was a back-and-forth battle between both sides, as each side looked to establish early momentum. The Falcons outshot the Blue Knights by a 12-4 margin in the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net, leaving the game in a scoreless tie at halftime.
In the second half, the Falcons' offensive attack continued to create numerous scoring chances, but couldn't capitalize early in the half.Â
However, as the half went on, the NDC attack began to wear down the Urbana defense.

Alexis Manoa dished a pass to
Maranda Melton, who rifled a shot from 12 yards out to the back-right of the goal, scoring for the Falcons. Melton's goal was the first of the game, and her first of the season, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead midway through the second half.
After the goal from Melton, the Falcons' defense stepped up to the challenge of protecting a narrow 1-0 lead. NDC limited shot attempts from Urbana in the second half, winning the shot advantage 10-7.
The Falcons maintained ball possession throughout the remainder of the game while continuing to pressure the Urbana offense. From there, the Falcons held on for the 1-0 home win over the visiting Blue Knights.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 7-3-1 on the season, including a 6-2-1 mark in Mountain East Conference play.
The Falcons will return to action on Friday, Oct. 9 at home against West Liberty in another MEC showdown. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Mueller Field.
