Box Score FAIRMONT, W.Va -- Playing their final regular season game of the 2015 campaign, the Notre Dame College women's soccer team squared off with the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons in a Mountain East Conference battle. The Falcons outshot FSU by a 32-3 margin en route to a 1-0 road victory on Sunday afternoon.
NDC rushed out to an aggressive start, pushing the tempo on offense while keeping consistent pressure on the FSU goalkeeper. Despite taking 16 shots in the first half, the Falcons were unable to capitalize, leaving the game at a scoreless tie going into the halftime intermission.
In the second half, the Falcons were just as relentless on offense. The NDC offense applied onstant pressure on the FSU defense, and was able to finally break through with a goal early in the second half.
In the 55th minute,
Alexis Manoa booted a corner kick into the box and
Megan O'Connor headed the ball in net for a goal, giving NDC a 1-0 lead at the 54:27 mark.
The Falcons defense protected the 1-0 lead by limiting shot attempts from FSU. NDC continued to dominate ball possession and shot attempts, holding on to the narrow 1-0 lead.
NDC's defense allowed just one shot attempt from FSU in the second half, keeping the ball in the Fighting Falcons end for the majority of the game. On the flip side, the Falcons attempted 16 more shots in the second half, but only scored on the header from O'Connor.
After 90 minutes of play, NDC outshot FSU by a wide 32-2 margin and held on for a 1-0 win in the process.
With the win, NDC finished the regular season with a 13-4-1 overall record, including a 12-3-1 mark in Mountain East Conference play.
