Box Score FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Notre Dame Falcons fell to Fairmont State in three sets on Friday night in another Mountain East Conference road tilt.
The loss for the Falcons (2-20, 1-10 MEC) was their sixth in a row, while the victory for Fairmont State (18-7, 9-2) was their second this season against NDC, their third in a row overall, and their fifth in six games at home.
In the first set, Fairmont State ran out to an 11-3 lead, setting the tone early and never looking back, as they went on to win, 25-16. The second set saw FSU score the first four points, which was part of a 6-1 run to start the set, in a 25-17 victory.
Notre Dame fought back and put up a stronger fight in the final set. The Falcons scored the first three points in the final set, and did not trail until FSU took an 11-10 lead. The set was extremely tight the rest of the way. With the set tied at 17-17, NDC scored three straight points to take the lead, before FSU returned the favor to tie the set, 20-20. Notre Dame scored the next two points to take a 22-20 lead, but FSU ended the match with a 5-1 run to win, 25-23.
Angela Bush had a nice night for the Falcons, as she led the way with seven blocks to go along with four kills.
Lindsay Shirilla paced NDC with six kills and added three blocks.
Tawny Flareau had 14 assists on the night, while
Tawnia Almaraz led the Falcons with 14 kills and
Shelby Regiec added 11.
Notre Dame is in action again on Saturday, Oct. 31, for their final road match of the season. They'll square off against Shepherd (WV) at 4 PM.
