Box Score CONCORD, W.Va -- Playing the back-end of a Mountain East Conference men's/women's soccer doubleheader, the Notre Dame College women's soccer team took on the host Concord Mountain Lions on Saturday afternoon at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex. The Falcons were led by one goal each from
Norah Barnes and
Karla DiJohn, leading to a 2-0 win over Concord.
Seventy-two seconds into the game, the Falcons were already leading on the scoreboard, 1-0.
Norah Barnes settled a pass from
Jillian Doss and fired a shot to the back of the Concord net, scoring the opening goal of the game at the 1:12 mark of the first half.
With NDC leading 1-0, the Falcons and Mountain Lions battled back-and-forth for the majority of the first half, as both teams looked to establish tempo and control over the other.Â
However, outside of the early goal from Barnes, the Falcons and Mountain Lions played a relatively close first half. NDC outshot Concord narrowly, 8-7, in the first half as both sides went into halftime with the score still standing at 1-0 in favor of NDC.
While the first half was a close battle between both sides, the Falcons turned up the intensity in the second half.
The Falcons defense aggressively pursued the ball early in the second half, leading to a steal from
Karla DiJohn to create a fast break for the NDC offense. DiJohn stole a Concord pass just outside of the box and fired a shot from 18 yards away to the lower right corner, scoring a 55th minute goal for the Falcons.
Following the goal from DiJohn, the Falcons defense continued to pressure the Concord offense while nearly eliminating CU's shot attempts.
The Falcons outshot the Mountain Lions by a dominant 12-2 margin in the second half while goalkeeper
Louisa Rygh and the NDC defense continue its stout play.
From there, NDC held on for the 2-0 road win over Concord to pick up yet another Mountain East Conference victory. With the win, the Falcons improve to 6-3-1 on the season, including a 5-2-1 mark in MEC play.
NDC will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at home against Urbana University in another MEC matchup. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Mueller Field.
