Box Score URBANA, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons to the Urbana Blue Knights in four sets on Tuesday evening in another Mountain East Conference road tilt.
The loss for the Falcons (2-19, 1-9 MEC) was their fifth in a row, while the win for the Blue Knights (10-12, 4-6 MEC) was their third straight.
Urbana opened the match with a 25-14 victory in the opening set, which saw both teams exchange sizeable runs. Notre Dame scored the first five points of the set, before surrendering the next six. The contest completely changed, when it was tied, 10-10, and Urbana followed with a 7-0 run and never looked back.
Much like the first set, the second started very well for NDC, as they began it with a 9-3 run, and they led by as many as seven (11-4), before Urbana caught fire. They chipped away at the lead, and down 15-9, they went on a 7-0 run to regain the lead. They had a 22-20 advantage, before the Falcons closed out the set with an incredible 5-0 run to win, 25-22.
Unfortunately, very little went right for the Falcons after that. Urbana started the third set on a 7-0 run, and went on to win, 25-16, and in the final set, they got out to a 4-0 lead, and never trailed at any point, closing out the match with a 25-19 victory.
Lindsay Shirilla led the way once again for Notre Dame with 12 kills and added nine digs.
Kristen Hill added eight kills and five digs.
Tawny Flareau had 20 assists and 15 digs, while
Tawnia Almaraz contributed with 12 digs.
The Falcons are in action again on Friday, Oct. 30, when they square off against Fairmont State in another MEC road tilt. The contest is scheduled for a 7 PM start.
