Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame College women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead over Shepherd University and never looked back, as they came away with a 5-0 win over the Rams on Saturday morning at Normandy Field.
The scoring started in just the third minute of play as freshman
Jillian Doss netted her first goal of the season, with the assist from junior
Alex Defilippo.
After claiming a 1-0 lead, the scoring would come to a brief halt for the Falcons. Then, in the 32nd minute, the Falcons benefited from an own goal by the Rams, giving NDC a 2-0 lead. Less than four minutes later, the Falcons tacked on another goal as Defilippo found the back of the net to give NDC a 3-0 lead at half.
Despite taking just five shots in the first half, the Falcons were fortunate to score on three of those attempts. The Rams, on the other hand, were held scoreless on just four shots in the first half.
At the 59:14 mark, Defilippo added another goal to her resume and pushed the lead to 4-0 for NDC.Â
With a 4-0 lead late in the second half, the Falcons went to their bench to find fresh legs and, of course, one last goal. Freshman
Jordan Smith scored her first collegiate goal and freshman
Kaysy Heyde recorded her first collegiate assist, and the Falcons increased their lead to 5-0 and went on to win the game by the same score.
With the victory over the Rams, the Falcons improve to 6-1 overall on the season, including 4-0 at home and 4-1 in Mountain East Conference play.
The Falcons will next compete on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at at home 4 p.m. against the Urbana Blue Knights in another MEC matchup.
