Volleyball sweeps Glenville State, improves to 2-0 at home

Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Playing their second home match in as many days, the Notre Dame College volleyball team played host to the visiting Glenville State Pioneers on Saturday afternoon at the Murphy Gymnasium. The Falcons used the home crowd to their advantage as they never trailed in a set against Glenville State, sweeping the Pioneers with a 3-0 victory.

Perhaps using momentum from their Friday night win over West Virginia Wesleyan, the Falcons came out of the gates firing against the Pioneers. NDC jumped out to an immediate 7-0 lead, and continued to push their lead to as large as 15-3 in the first set.

However, the Pioneers responded with run of their own, winning 13 of the next 18 points to trim the deficit to 20-16. While both sides went back and forth for the remainder of the set, the Falcons remained composed and went on to win the first set by a 25-20 score.

The Falcons again built themselves a comfortable lead in the second set, taking a 15-6 lead midway through. From there, the Falcons refused to take their foot off the gas and continued their strong play to win the second set, 25-11.

In the third and final set, the Falcons continued the theme of claiming an early lead as they won 13 of the first 17 points. With a 13-4 lead in the set, as well as a 2-0 lead in the match, the Falcons closed out the match with a 25-10 win in the third set, winning the match 3-0.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 4-7 overall, including 2-0 in Mountain East Conference play and a 2-0 home record.

The Falcons will compete next on Tuesday night against the Ursuline College Arrows. While the Falcons are technically the visitors, the match will be played on their home court at the Murphy Gymnasium due to a change in location. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
