Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- After opening the 2014 campaign with nine straight road matches to start the season, the Notre Dame College volleyball team hosted the visiting West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats on Friday night at Murphy Gymnasium. The Falcons found comfort on their home court, beating the Bobcats by a match score of 3-1.
The Falcons opened the match in front of a raucous home crowd, and used that energy in their favor to come away with a 25-15 win in the first set.
In the second set, the Falcons battled but fell victim to a Bobcats hot streak, giving WVW a 25-18 win. However, the Falcons would respond in the third set.
NDC trailed narrowly for much of the third set, but the Falcons were able to finally tie the set at an even score of 22. With both teams tied and just three points away from the match lead, the Falcons rose to the occasion and won three of the next four points to take the third set by a score of 25-23.
In the fourth set, the Falcons showed no mercy and jumped out to an early 6-1 lead. Both sides remained competitive for the entirety of the set, but the Falcons refused to squander their early lead, holding on for a 25-20 win in the fourth set, thus winning the match by a score of 3-1.
Junior 
Lindsay Shirilla led the Falcons with 11 kills on the night, while junior 
Brooke Mako finished with nine kills of her own. 
With the win, the Falcons improve to 1-0 at home on the season, as well as 1-0 in Mountain East Conference play.
The Falcons will compete next on Saturday, Sept. 20 at home against the visiting Glenville Stat Pioneers. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
