FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- A pair of terrific pitching performances and some timely offensive production were key elements in Notre Dame's double header sweep of Fairmont State on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons (21-17, 19-14 MEC) turned in yet another shutout in a 4-0 victory in game one,  and finished the Saturday sweep with a game two over the Fighting Falcons (13-26, 11-21), 4-2, as Jake Welch took a no-hitter into the sixth inning.

Game One:
Notre Dame scored single runs in the second and third innings, before capitalizing on a pair of infield singles, which produced two more runs in the top of the fourth inning of game one to come away with a 4-0 victory.

Jarlys Mejia started the second inning with a single to right field, and made his way to second after Andrew Hurd was hit by a pitch.  A passed ball moved them both up one base, and Shane DeFranco's sac fly scored Mejia to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

In the third, Mike Ferguson's leadoff single was followed by Danny Beaver's bunt base hit.  Two batters later, Keifer Quick reached on third baseman Matt Emerick's error, which allowed Ferguson to come around score.

Notre Dame added two more in the fourth inning, plating both runs with two outs. DeFranco started the inning with a single to left, and made his way to second on Travis Smetana's sac bunt. A two out walk was issued to Ferguson, putting runners at the corners with two down, when Beaver reached on an infield single to score DeFranco. TJ Lett followed with an infield base hit, and on the play, an error committed by first baseman Randy Tallhamer, allowed Ferguson to score from second.

Matt Kastelic (6-4) kept the Fighting Falcons off the board through six strong innings, and allowed just four hits along the way while striking out six in a winning effort, while Eric Napoli (1) scored the save after allowing a run on one hit in his only inning of work.

Beaver led the way for Notre Dame in game one, going 2-for-4, counting for a third of NDC's six hits in the contest, while seven Falcons reached safely at least once.

Game Two:
Jake Welch (7-3) had a big game for the Falcons, and it began with him retiring the first 14 batters he faced. He was perfect through 4.2 innings of action, and after fanning the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the fifth inning, he issued a free pass to Brian Coleman.

Notre Dame's offense put runs on the board in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.  In the fourth, TJ Lett reached on an infield single, before advancing to second and third on groundouts from Keifer Quick Taylor Neville, and scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.

The Falcons added another run in the top of the fifth. Travis Smetana began the inning with a free pass, and Tanner Dovsek's sac bunt pushed him over to second base, before Troy Findlay scored him on a RBI single to center.

A pair of runs came across for the Falcons on two hits in the top of the sixth inning. Neville was issued a one out free pass, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and made his way to third on a single from Mejia before Smetana drove him home on a RBI single to right. Later in the inning, Mejia scored on Dovsek's sac fly to give NDC a 4-0 lead.

Welch allowed his first hit, and a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Josh Wine drove in the first run of the frame on a RBI single, and Sam Harris reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed Jeremy Walter to score, cutting the NDC lead in half (4-2).

Things got interesting in the seventh inning after Welch retired the first two batters. He allowed a two out single before hitting the next batter, and with the tying runs aboard, he was able to work his way out of the jam by inducing a groundout to finish the contest.

Welch went the distance yet again, marking the seventh complete game of the season for him, as he allowed just the two runs, on three hits while fanning 11 batters in the process to get the victory.

Beaver turned in another multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 in game two, giving him nine multi-hit games on the season.  Beaver went 4-for-8 on the afternoon to lead NDC offensively.

The Falcons are in action again against Fairmont State with another double header on Sunday, April 27. The first pitch in game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
