SISSONVILLE, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame Falcons wrapped a successful weekend of action with a 1-0 victory over Glenville State on Sunday afternoon to complete a weekend sweep of the Pioneers. (Box score unavailable)
The Falcons (5-2, 3-0 MEC) have now won five games in a row, while the Pioneers (0-5, 0-3) are still searching for the first win of the season. The two teams were scheduled to play a double header on Sunday, but the second game was rained out. The first game was limited to five innings as well because of the rain.
On a weekend where the runs came in bunches for the Falcons, it took only one for NDC to come away with the win on Sunday.
Ryan Sanders had a monster weekend, and it was his run scoring single that produced the game's lone run in the top of the third.
The third inning began with
Travis Smetana's base hit.
Danny Beaver then reached after laying down a sacrifice bunt to put Smetana on second base.
Jarlys Mejia then grounded out to move both base runners over, and Sanders followed with a base hit to score Smetana.
Matt Kastelic (1-1) stole the show for the Falcons, as he blanked the Pioneers through five innings of action. He allowed just three hits on the afternoon while fanning seven batters through five scoreless frames.
The Falcons will be in action again next Saturday, March 8, when they hit the road again for a double header against Concord (W.Va.). The first pitch in game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
