Women's soccer falls to Edinboro

Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- In the final game of the 2014 regular season, the Notre Dame College women's soccer team fell by a narrow score of 1-0 to the visiting Edinboro Fighting Scots in a non-conference matchup.

Both sides battled through rain and windy conditions, playing at a slower-than-usual pace to start the game. The Fighting Scots were able to create scoring opportunities on a few different occasions in the first half, but the Falcons leaned on sophomore Samantha Shoemaker in goal. Shoemaker would go on to make four saves in the first half as both sides went into halftime tied at zero.

In the second half, the Fighting Scots began to create more scoring chances while the Falcons struggled to find any offensive rhythm.

In the 66th minute, a foul was given to the Falcons which led to a penalty shot for Edinboro. Becca Costello converted on the penalty kick to give Edinboro a 1-0 lead, and the Fighting Scots held on for the remainder of regulation to come away with a 1-0 win over NDC.

With the loss, the Falcons suffer just their second loss of the season, as well as their first home loss of the season. The Falcons finish the regular season with a final record of 12-2-2, and will now turn their attention to the upcoming Mountain East Conference Tournament. More information on the MEC Tournament will soon be available at www.mountaineast.org
