Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va. – The Notre Dame Falcons lost a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon in three sets, to Wheeling Jesuit and Davis and Elkins.
The Falcons (7-19, 5-10 MEC) were coming off a big road win over West Liberty, where they had snapped a 12-match road losing streak, but they weren't able to capitalize on that momentum as they fell twice in three sets.
The opening match of the day saw the Falcons take on the top team in the Mountain East, in Wheeling Jesuit. The Cardinals had won seven in a row heading into the contest, and they took it to the Falcons, 25-13, 25-10, and 25-18.
In their second match of the day, the Falcons were not able to execute a Senator sweep. The Falcons had defeated Davis and Elkins, 3-1, back on September 6, but on Saturday, they fell to the Senators in three sets. The second match of the day turned out better than the first, as NDC fell 25-13, 25-22, and 25-20.
Leading the way for the Falcons was
Lindsay Shirilla, who finished the afternoon with 22 kills, and
Angela Bush wasn't far behind with 18. Bush was also a force at the net defensively with 10 blocks, and Shea Thayer had 10 blocks on the day as well.
Tawny Flareau paced the Falcons with 38 assists and
Shelby Regiec finished the day with 29.
Tawnia Almaraz led Notre Dame with 28 digs on the day while Regiec added 26, Flareau added 21, and both
Morgan Toman and
Ryan Moriarty added 22.
The Falcons will return home to play their final home match of the season on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in a non-conference tilt against Lake Erie. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
