Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame College women's soccer team took to the road on Saturday afternoon as they played the Concord University Mountain Lions at Anderson Field. Despite battling for 110 minutes, NDC and CU remained tied at the end of two overtime periods, ending the game in a 1-1 tie.
Both sides battled for a fairly even first half, as the Falcons outshot the Mountain Lions by a narrow advantage of 4-3. However, NDC was able to score via penalty kick, as sophomore
Alexis Manoa converted the PK in the 21st minute to give NDC the 1-0 lead.Â
Few offensive chances for each side led to a 1-0 score at halftime, in favor of NDC.
In the second half, the Falcons began to find their groove offensively, creating multiple shot opportunities. However, despite outshooting CU 7-1 in the second half, NDC was unable to increase their 1-0 lead. Meanwhile, the Mountain Lions scored on their only shot attempt of the second half as Kari Simon tied the game in the 66th minute.
NDC and CU remained tied at the end of regulation, thus forcing overtime. In the first 10-minute period, neither side was able to score, thus forcing a second overtime.
The Falcons took three shots in the second overtime to CU's zero shots, but couldn't find the back of the net on any of those three chances. The game finished in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of action.
The Falcons' record now stands 6-1-1 on the season, including 5-1-1 in Mountain East Conference play.
NDC will next compete on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at home against Charleston University at 1 p.m.
