Box Score URBANA, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons fought hard but fell to the Urbana Blue Knights in three tightly contested sets on Tuesday evening.
The Falcons (6-17, 4-9 MEC) have now lost two of their last three matches, while the victory for the Blue Knights (13-13, 9-4) snapped a brief two game slide, and was their second win over the Falcons this season.
The opening set saw the Falcons push the Blue Knights, in a match that required extra time to finish, but the Blue Knights prevailed, 26-24. The second set saw both teams score more than 20 points, but Urbana again pulled away, 25-21. Urbana was pushed to the limit again in the final set, where they scored another two point victory, 25-23.
Leading the way for the Falcons was
Kristen Hill, who had 10 kills on the evening, and
Lindsay Shirilla was second with six.
Tawny Flareau paced the Falcons with 13 assists, and
Shelby Regiec added 111. Defensively, Shea Thayer had a nice night at the net, coming away with a trio of blocks while Regiec led the way with 15 digs, and
Tawnia Almaraz contributed with 11.
The Falcons are in action again on Friday, Oct. 31, when they square off against West Liberty in another Mountain East Conference road tilt. The contest is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
