Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- For the second time in as many years, the Notre Dame College women's soccer team has won the Mountain East Conference regular season championship. The Falcons clinched the regular season title with a 3-0 win over Concord University on Saturday afternoon at Mueller Field.
The Falcons came into Saturday's match having not lost since Sept. 20 - their only loss of the 2014 campaign - and looked to keep that trend alive against the Mountain Lions.Â
NDC took the lead early in the game and never looked back as junior Alex DeFilippo scored an unassisted, third-minute goal to give NDC the early 1-0 advantage. The Falcons outplayed the Mountain Lions from start to finish, creating numerous scoring opportunities against the CU defense.Â
With a 1-0 lead in hand, the Falcons added to that lead in the 36th minute as junior
Kathrine Beattie scored to push the lead to 2-0, with the assist coming from junior
Magail Heaps. Just a few minutes later in the 42nd minute, junior
Sabrina Mottershead scored as well for the Falcons, giving NDC a 3-0 lead going into the half.
At halftime, the Falcons held a 14-2 shot advantage over the Mountain Lions, and went on to outshoot CU by a 26-5 margin in the game.
NDC held its three-goal lead for the entirety of the second half, and the Falcons went on to not only win the game, but also clinch the MEC regular season title.
With two games left in the regular season schedule, the Falcons will next compete on Wednesday, Oct. 29 on the road at Urbana University. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
