WEST LIBERTY, W.Va -- Playing on the road for the third time in the last four games, the Notre Dame College women's soccer team outplayed the host West Liberty Hilltoppers, coming away with a 1-0 road victory over WLU. Sophomore Lacey Marcoux scored the game-winning goal in the 71st minute with an assist from junior Alex DeFilippo.

The Falcons (10-1-2, 9-1-2 Mountain East) took control of the game - and the tempo - from the first whistle, creating numerous scoring opportunities. The Falcons played strong on both sides of the pitch in the first half, taking eight shots and yielding zero. However, NDC was unable to capitalize on any of its offensive chances on the first half, leaving the match scoreless at halftime.

The second half was a much closer battle, as the Falcons narrowly outshot the Hilltoppers, 5-4, while both sides pushed to get the lead. However, fortune came the Falcons way in the 71st minute as Marcoux attempted her only shot of the game, and proved that one shot was all she needed as she found the back of the net. Marcoux's second goal of the season was assisted by DeFilippo, who passed through WLU defenders to find Marcoux for the goal.

From there, the Falcons continued to do their best to keep pressure off of sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Shoemaker, and the NDC defense stood tall to hold on for the 1-0 road victory. With the win, NDC improves to 2-0 against WLU this season, and 4-0 against the Hilltoppers all-time.

The Falcons will next compete on Saturday, Oct. 25 at home against the Concord University Mountain Lions. The match is scheduled to begin at noon at Mueller Field.
