Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame came from behind on Tuesday evening against West Liberty, but their comeback effort was cut short in a five set loss to the Hilltoppers.
The Falcons (5-15, 3-7 MEC) have now lost four matches in a row, while West Liberty (8-15, 5-6) scored their second road win of the season, and they've won two out of their last three matches.
West Liberty took the opening set, 25-17, before the Falcons rallied back to take the second set, in a tightly contested, 25-22 final. The third set belonged to the Hilltoppers, as they came away with a 25-16 victory, but Notre Dame came right back to answer with a 25-23 victory in the fourth set. The Falcons were down, 11-7 in the finale set, and came back within one (11-10) before West Liberty closed out the match with a 15-11 victory.
Lindsay Shirilla paced the Falcons with 14 kills and
Angela Bush added nine.
Shelby Regiec tallied 20 assists on the night while
Tawny Flareau contributed with 16. Four Falcons tallied double digit digs, and
Tawnia Almaraz led the way with 16. Regiec added 14 digs, Flareau added 11 and
Morgan Toman finished the evening with 10, to go along with a pair of blocks.
The Falcons are in action again on Friday, Oct. 24, when they play host to Shepherd at Murphy Gymnasium in another Mountain East Conference matchup. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
