Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons fell in three sets at home on Friday evening to No. 13 Wheeling Jesuit in Mountain East Conference play.
The Falcons (5-14, 5-4 MEC) have now lost three in a row, while the victory for the Cardinals (23-3, 8-0 MEC) was their third in a row, and they are still the only unbeaten team in Mountain East Conference play.
The Cardinals were dominant throughout the contest. They took the opening set, 25-10, won by the exact same score in the second set, and came away with another convincing victory in the final set, in a 25-11 victory to seal the deal.
Wheeling Jesuit established a 6-1 advantage early on in the first set to set the tone, and Notre Dame was only able to draw within three (7-4), before the Cardinals pulled away. Unfortunately for the Falcons, not much changed in the second set, as the Cardinals eventually mounted a 21-6 advantage before pulling away with another 15-point victory. In the final set, the Cards established another large lead, taking an early 8-2 advantage, and never looked back.
Leading the way for the Falcons was
Melissa Maczuzak, who had five kills in the contest.
Shelby Regiec came away with a team high, 12 assists on the evening, and tied for the team lead in digs with six.
Tawnia Almaraz tied Regiec with six digs for the team lead, and
Morgan Toman added five.
The Falcons are in action again on Tuesday, Oct. 21, when they host West Liberty at Murphy Gymnasium in more Mountain East Conference action. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
