Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- As the old adage goes, "home is where the heart is." For those uninformed, home is always where the winning is - or at least that's the case for the Notre Dame College women's soccer team. The Falcons played host to the Urbana University Blue Knights on Wednesday afternoon at Mueller Field, and came away with an impressive 5-0 win. With the win, the Falcons improve to a perfect 5-0 when playing at home this season.
In a battle between two Mountain East Conference opponents, the game started off at a slower pace with few offensive chances created by either side. The Falcons began to push the ball upfield, and of the first nine shots on goal, eight of them were shot by the Falcons. However, after 30 minutes of play in the first half, neither team was able to put a goal on the scoreboard.
And then the flood gates opened for the Falcons.
Sophomore
Megan O'Connor scored the first goal of the game for the Falcons at the 33:10 mark, with the assist from junior
Kathrine Beattie. Twenty-seven second later, the Falcons tacked on another goal as sophomore
Lacey Marcoux as sophomore
Alexis Manoa assisted on the score.
With a 2-0 lead in hand, the Falcons weren't content with just a two-goal lead. After assisting on the second goal, Manoa decided to score the third goal, as she found the back of the net and gave NDC a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, junior
Alex Defilippo scored for the Falcons with 30:45 remaining and O'Connor scored her second goal of the game with 23:09 remaining to push the lead to 5-0.Â
Urbana scored a goal of their own at the 83:38 mark, as Brittany Bryer kicked one to the back of the net to make the score 5-1, in favor of NDC.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 6-1 on the season, including a 5-1 mark in MEC play.
The Falcons will next compete on Saturday, Oct. 4 on the road at Concord University. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
