PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Notre Dame College women's soccer team opened their season with a solid 2-0 victory over Carlow University.
The Falcons, playing at the scenic Pittsburgh Riverhounds stadium in downtown Pittsburgh, started strongly and were rewarded by freshman
Natalie Ockunzzi's 25th minute strike.
A strong defensive performance from the Falcons, kept Carlow at bay and the Falcons were able to add to their lead in the 78th minute with a goal from sophomore
Alex Defilippo.
The win for the Falcons (1-0) was impressive given Carlow's 13-2-1 record in 2012.
"It was a good start," said head Coach
Mike Shiels. "We were able to create a lot of chances but will need to be a little more clinical in front of goal in the future. It was a good result though for our first game and we are only going to get better."
The Falcons will make their home debut on Mueller field next Wednesday September 11th at 5 p.m. when they take on the Golden Bears from West Virginia Tech.
