SHEPERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Notre Dame College women's soccer team defeated the Shepherd Rams 1-0 to remain undefeated and move to 5-0 in conference and 7-0 overall.
Shepherd provided the Falcons with their sternest test of the season so far as they created goal scoring opportunities throughout the game. Fortunately for the Falcons senior goalkeeper
Kristy Kolschetzky was up to the challenge, tallying 8 saves during the game, to record her sixth shutout of the season.
The Falcons outshot the Rams 9 to 7 in the first half but were unable to provide a finishing touch.
The Falcons however persisted in the second half producing their most complete 45 minutes of the season. This was rewarded in the 78th minute when
Kathrine Beattie was able to beat two players and then produce a goal scoring strike from 25 yards out,
Natalie Ockunzzi providing the assist.
"I am very happy with the result today. It was a big test for the team to go on the road and play a very good Shepherd team. ," said Head Coach
Mike Shiels. "They asked a lot of questions of us in the first half and we rode our luck a bit but we played our way back into the game. We produced a very good second half and Kathrine scored a very good goal to get us the win."
The Falcons, who are currently ranked sixth in the
NCAA Division II Atlantic Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), will travel to Urbana on Wednesday October 2nd to take on the Blue Knights at 2:30 p.m.
