SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Two goals from
Kathrine Beattie helped the Falcons defeat West Virginia Wesleyan 2-0.
The Falcons (5-0) made the most of their goal scoring opportunities and a battling defensive performance to defeat the Mountain East Conference preseason favorites.
Beattie, who has led the Falcons in terms of shots this season, got her first goal of the season in the 39th minute when she capitalized on a
Natalie Ockunzzi cross from the right hand side.
In the second half the Falcons managed to absorb strong pressure from the Bobcats and catch them on the break away in the 85th minute to close out the game. Again it was the combination of Ockunzzi and Beattie that provided the goal for the Falcons. Ockunzzi used her pace down the right hand side to get to the byline and cross to Beattie who provided the finishing touch.
The Falcons defense and goalkeeper Kristy Kolshetzky recorded their fourth shutout of the season.
The Falcons move to 3-0 in the Mountain East Conference, 3-0 at home and 5-0 overall, to continue their record-breaking start to the season.
The Falcons now head out on the road for three straight games, starting with a trip to Wheeling, W.Va on Wednesday 25th September to face the Hilltoppers from West Liberty.
