ERIE, Pa. -- The Notre Dame Falcons finished the weekend with a pair of losses against a couple of tough opponents on Saturday afternoon at the MEC/PSAC crossover.

NDC (1-12) lost in three sets to a pair of teams with a combined record of 15-4, falling to Mercyhurst in the opening contest of the day, and fell in the finale to an unbeaten Clarion squad.

In their first match against the Lakers, Notre Dame lost their first two matches, 25-14, and 25-20, but certainly didn't go down quietly, as they rallied in the final set and pushed Mercyhurst to the limit, but eventually fell to the Lakers, 32-30.

NDC got tougher as the match progressed and limited their mistakes in the final set.  They were led offensively by Stephanie Frick, who had seven kills against the Lakers, and Katie Sullivan who had a half-dozen kills and hit .286 in the match. Tawny Flareau led the way for NDC with 21 assists, while a pair of Falcons registered double digit digs.  Brittany Perrott led the way with 17, and Erica Crawford chipped in with 10.

Notre Dame fell to a 10-0 Clarion club in the second match of the day, falling 25-14, 25-20, and 25-17.  The Falcons played better in the second set, hitting .211 in the 25-20 loss.

Sullivan and Samantha Placko paced NDC with five kills each against Clarion, and Placko hit .250 in the match.  Perrott once again paced the NDC defense with 13 digs with a pair of aces, and Flareau contributed with 21 assists, giving her 42 on the day.

After playing their first 13 contests away from home to start the year, NDC will be in action again when they host their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 24, when they square off against Ursuline at Murphy Gymnasium.  The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
