Falcons lose two at MEC/PSAC crossover

ERIE, Pa. -- The Notre Dame Falcons lost a pair of matches on Friday in their first day of action at the Mountain East Conference/Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover. 

NDC (1-10) opened the day with a close contest against Indiana (Pa.), but lost in four very close sets. The second match of the afternoon didn't go so well for the Falcons, as they were defeated in three sets by the hosts, Gannon.

In their first match against the Redhawks, the Falcons fell, 26-24 in the opening set, before coming back to even the match at 1-1, with a 25-21 victory over IUP in match two.  The Redhawks then pulled away with victories in the final two sets, 25-14, and 25-19.

NDC hit .225 and registered 11 blocks in the first match.  Angela Bush led the way for NDC, delivering 12 kills in the opening match to go along with two blocks and two block assists.  Tawny Flareau had 30 assists, three block assists and seven digs against the Redhawks as well.  Brittany Perrott had 11 digs for the NDC defense, while Erica Crawford delivered nine.

Gannon was very successful in the second match of the day, as they won in three sets against the Falcons, 25-13, 25-12, and 25-12.

Kristen Hill led NDC against Gannon with four kills, while Bush and Suzanne Morris each had three.  Perrott once again led the charge for NDC defensively with 11 digs, giving her 22 on the day. Flareau had eight assists, while Shelby Regiec had five.

The Falcons will finish up at the MEC/PSAC crossover competition on Saturday.  They'll play a pair of contests, beginning with a 10 a.m. match against Mercyhurst (Pa.), and they'll finish up Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. contest against Clarion.
