SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame College women's soccer team continue their winning ways with a 2-1 victory over the Golden Eagles from Charleston.
The Falcons move to 2-0 in the Mountain East Conference, 2-0 at home and 4-0 overall, with this being the Falcons strongest start to a season in a number of years.
The Falcons started strongly in the first half out shooting Charleston 9-7 in a quick and open game.
It wasn't until early in the second half that the Falcons broke the deadlock, when once again it was freshman
Natalie Ockunzzi who opened the scoring. Ockunzzi has now scored in all four of her starts for the Falcons and leads the team in scoring.
The Falcons put together their best passage of play in the 66th minute when Katherine Beattie played in
Alex Defilippo, who showed her turn of pace to score her third goal of the season.
Charleston pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute when Lydia Murray looped her shot over NDC goalkeeper
Kristy Kolschetzky. This was the first goal of the season that Kolschetzky has conceded, having had shut outs in her previous three games.
Despite some nervous moments at the end the Falcons held on to win 2-1 and remain unbeaten on the year.
The Falcons continue their home stand on Saturday September 20th at 12 p.m. when the Bobcats from West Virginia Wesleyan visit South Euclid. Saturday's game will be played on Normandy Field, the Falcons additional turf field on campus due to the home Football game that day.
