WHEELING, W.Va. – The Notre Dame College women's soccer team started Mountain East Conference play with a 3-0 victory over Wheeling Jesuit.
The Falcons (3-0) used pace and determination to secure a solid 3-0 victory over the Cardinals.
Freshman Natalie Ockunzzi opened the scoring for the Falcons in the third minute as she sped down the right flank before cutting inside and shooting into the roof of the net. She has now scored in each of the Falcons last three games.
The Falcons continued to create chances fin the first half with Kathrine Beattie and Alex Defilippo coming close to adding to the Falcon lead.
However, it wasn't until the second half and the 59th minute that the Falcons were able to add to their lead. Megan O'Connor was on hand once again after the Falcons were awarded a penalty shot. She calmly slotted here second penalty in two games.
The win was assured in the 66th minute, when Natalie Ockunzzi prssurized the Cardinals goalkeeper to create a goal for Alex Defilippo, who scored her second goal of the season.
The Falcons outshot the Cardinal 9-1.
Once again the Falcon defense of Dorarty, Heaps, Balodis and Carlisle provided good protection for Kristy Kolschetzky, who has yet to concede a goal this season.
The Falcons return home on Wednesday September 18th at 2 p.m. to face the visiting Golden Eagles from the university of Charleston.
