FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Notre Dame College women's soccer team lost only their second game of the season in 2013 Mountain East Conference Tournament championship game. The Falcons lost 1-0 to the Bobcats from West Virginia Wesleyan, the only team to beat the Falcons this season.
The Falcons (16-2-0) outshot the Bobcats 7-6 but were unable to find the back of the net.
The Bobcats took an early lead in the 15th minute thanks to a Colette Biondi goal. The goal was only the fourth goal that the Falcons have conceded this season.
The Falcons worked hard in the second half to draw level but could not find an equalizer. The Falcons who were the Mountain East Conference Regular Season Championship have produced the most successful season in program history, recording a record number of wins that included an 11 game winning streak to start the season.
"We struggled to settle into the game in the first half and maybe got a little caught up in the moment" said Head Coach
Mike Shiels."Unfortunately we couldn't get out of the half without conceeding. The second half was much improved and we created a couple of chances that could have tied it up. It was a credit to the girls that they pushed for the equalize all the way to the end, we just couldn't find a way through. Our seniors who've been great for us all year were terrific again but we just fell short today."
Karla DiJohn,
Emily Balodis and
Megan O'Connor were named to the MEC all-tournament squad
