Comeback cut short

NDC falls to Urbana in four sets

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons fell to Urbana in four sets on Tuesday evening at Murphy Gymnasium.

For the Falcons (4-24, 2-11 MEC) the loss was be their second in a row, and fifth in their last six matches, while the victory for Urbana (8-17, 4-9) snapped a six match losing streak, and was their first since Oct. 18.

Notre Dame took control early in the first set, scoring the first five points.  However, Urbana would not go away, as they scored six out of the next eight points to trail 7-6, and eventually came back to tie the set at 11-11, prompting the Falcons to call a timeout. Urbana then rallied in the second half of the first set, and came away with a 25-21 victory.

While NDC scored first in the second set, Urbana was in the driver's seat in the early goings.  The Blue Knights took an early 5-1 advantage, and though they allowed NDC to come back and tie the set on two separate occasions, they never trailed after surrendering the opening point, in a 25-19 victory.

Notre Dame scored first again in the third set, and never trailed.  They found themselves ahead, 7-3 early on, and following an Urbana timeout, the Falcons established an even larger lead, taking a 16-7 advantage before the Blue Knights called another timeout.  Notre Dame never let up, and kept the match alive in a 25-13 victory.

Urbana established control early on in the fourth set.  They scored the first three points, and led by as many as six (7-1), before the Falcons called for time and rallied to draw within striking distance.  NDC narrowed the deficit to one on several occasions, but the Blue Knights pulled away with a 25-22 victory to seal the deal.

A pair of Falcons came away with double digit kills on the night.  Senior Taylor Thomas added 12 kills, to go along with seven blocks, and Suzanne Morris added 10 kills.  Brittany Perrott paced the Falcons with 24 digs, while Shelby Regiec added a dozen and Ryan Moriarty ended up with 11.  Regiec also had 38 assists.

The Falcons are in action again on Friday, Nov. 8 when they host West Liberty at Murphy Gymnasium. The contest is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
