NDC loses tight contest to Fairmont State

Box Score
FAIRMONT, W.Va. --The Notre Dame Falcons came very close to pulling off a big upset on Saturday, nearly cooling off a red hot Fairmont State team, but fell in five sets to the Fighting Falcons.

For the Falcons (4-23, 2-10 MEC) the loss was their second to FSU this season, while the victory for Fairmont State (23-4, 11-1) was their seventh in a row.  Prior to Saturday's game against NDC, FSU hadn't lost a set since Oct. 15.

The valiant effort by Notre Dame came up just one set short in a match where they had a 2-1 lead. Fairmont State opened the match with a 25-14 victory in the first set, before Notre Dame evened the match in the second set with a 28-26 victory.

Notre Dame came away with a 25-22 victory in the third set to take a 2-1 lead in the match.  In the third set, FSU had a 12-9 lead, before the Falcons went on a tear, scoring six of the next seven points to take the lead. However, FSU rallied, and came back to take the final set, 25-21.

The final set went back-and-forth.  Notre Dame was down 11-9, and came back to tie the set, but FSU rallied to score the final four points to win the match, 15-11.
