Falcons batter Rams

NDC scores first road win in conference play

Box Score
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame Falcons came away with their first road victory in conference play on Friday evening, besting the Rams of Shepherd University in four sets.

For the Falcons (4-22, 2-9 MEC) the victory snapped a brief, three-match losing streak and avenged a loss to the Rams earlier this season, while the loss for Shepherd (11-12, 6-5) was their third in their last four matches.

The victory was a come from behind effort for NDC, as they dropped the opening set to the Rams, 25-16.  Notre Dame evened the match with a 25-19 victory in the second set, before a tightly contested third set that shifted the momentum in NDC's favor.

Notre Dame came away with a 26-24 victory in the third set to take the lead, and then hit .294 in the final set, to win convincingly, 25-15 to score the win.

There were a trio of Falcons that led the way with nine kills apiece, as Lindsay Shirilla, Suzanne Morris and Kristen Hill all came away with nine, and Taylor Thomas added eight.  Shirilla hit .318 in the contest, with a block and three digs.

Shelby Regiec paced the Falcons with 39 assists on the night, and was one of four Falcons to register double digit digs with 11.  Brittany Perrott led the Falcons with 29 digs on the evening, while Kelsey Swords added 15, and Ryan Moriarty added 10.  Thomas and Angela Bush also added four kills.

The Falcons are in action again on Saturday, Nov. 2, when they continue their road trip in Fairmont, West Virginia, for a meeting with Fairmont State.  The contest is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
